Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook is located on the tip of New Jersey's northermost barrier island. The 1665 acre Hook is the result of longshore drift sediment and features several microclimates including seven miles of beach, dunes, Sandy Hook Bay, brackish marshes, and maritime forest. It is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, an open space preservation area around the New York Harbor.

The lighthouse at Sandy Hook is the oldest original lighthouse in the country. It was erected before the Revolutionary War and guided merchant vessels into the New York Harbor.
