Kennecot Copper Mine

40 32' 05 N
112 08' 37 W

Kennecott Copper Mine has supplied the world with over 15 million tons of copper metal since it was first mined in 1906. It has been called the "richest hole on earth," producing copper, silver, gold, and molybdenum. The pictures below are of Kennecott's Bingham Copper Mine. All processes of mining, smelting, and refining are done at the site before being shipped to various industrial companies. The most common uses for copper are electric wiring and communications equipment, motors, and automobiles.

Kennecott is one of the two man-made objects that can be seen from outer space. The other is the Great Wall of China.
