Drive Through the Ages
Shinarump Formation

40 35' 33 N
109 28' 07 W

The Shinarump Formation was deposited 170 million years ago. At this point in geologic history, the area was home to evergreen trees that grew 40 feet tall and three feet in diameter. The tree is called the Araucaria and can be found in Australia and South America today.

The Shinarump layer is responsible for much of the uranium that has been found in southern Utah.
