Bryce Canyon National Park
Inspiration Point

Inspiration Point provides a spectacular view of the various stages of erosion. The first few pictures display the erosion that occurs along the plateau rim. Water flowing down the cliffs increases speed and energy as it falls. Sediment and debris carried by the water, scrapes the softer rock and erodes it, creating gullies. The harder rock is not eroded and remains as what are known as the fins. The fins are further exposed to erosion when freezing water expands within vertical cracks in the rock. With time, the vertical cracks are eroded away leaving behind vertical column that we call hoodoos.
