37 37' 35 N
111 51' 05 W

Grand Staircase National Monument includes 1.9 million acres of land. The monument is a spectacular geologic timeline displaying over 270 million years of history. As you travel from South to North through the Monument you can view the rock formations from oldest to youngest. The Kailab uplift of the Moenkopi Formation is the oldest exposed layer. The Kailab Formation of Grand Staircase National Monument is the same elevation as the high area of the Grand Canyon. The youngest rock in the Grand Staircase is the Paunsaugunt Plateau of the Claron Formation. This section of the staircase extends into Bryce Canyon National Park and Dixie National Forest.
