How to Locate your Position:
1. Plug one end of the black cable link into the battery pack and the
other end into the GPS.
2. Place the cable link on the hook located on the GPS (provides stress
relief for the cable.
3. Turn on GPS by pressing the bottom button.
4. Select GPS STATUS
5. Select SAT TRACKING
6. Wait a few minutes until after the device has tracked at least 3-4
satellites (this will be indicated by an arrow () next to a number
(which represents one satellite).
7. At the bottom right hand corner of the screen you will see a PDOP.
The ideal PDOP is a value between 4-6. If the PDOP is drastically higher
or lower, note this in your log and continue to the next step.
8. Press ESCAPE twice to return to the main menu.
9. Select POSITION
10. Maneuver the GPS device so that it is in an open area away from
trees and buildings. The top of the device should be parallel to the
ground and sky.
11. Wait till the screen shows new coordinates. Watch carefully because
the screen may fluctuate back and forth between the old and new positions
coordinates. It might help if you hold the GPS steady.
12. Record new coordinates.
13. Select DATA CAPTURE
14. Select OPEN ROV FILE
15. Select COPY ROV FILE
16. Record ROV FILE {RO/month/day/universal standard time/file letter
(A=1st file within one hour)}
17. Select CLOSE FILE
18. Select YES
19. Turn power off by pressing the bottom button and holding it down
for 5 seconds.
How to Load Your Data onto a Computer:
1. Link the GPS to the computer by using a connecting wire.
2. Turn the GPS and the computer on.
3. On the computer, select PATHFINDER in the PROGRAM file.
4. Within the PATHFINDER, select PATHFINDER OFFICE
5. Open a new file and name it (ie
"river sojourn")
6. Under UTILITIES, select DATA TRANSFER.
7. Select ADD ALL or individually select each file and select ADD.
8. Select TRANSFER
9. Your files should be successfully saved on C:\pfdata\river sojourn
10. Insert disk in the A:\ drive
11. Open the A:\ drive
12. Highlight all of the transferred files and copy them into the A:\
drive.
13. Use differential equation to correct any errors by finding the exact
coordinates of the nearest GPS station
etc.
