Water Temperature

 

Protocols below are for use with Pasco probes. Click here for protocols to use the Vernier temperature probe.

Materials:

PasPort Xplorer
PasPort temperature sensor
PasPort temperature probe
USB cable
DataStudio software
Ice water
Boiling water

Steps for calibrating the temperature sensor:
1. Connect the temperature probe to the temperature sensor.
2. Connect the temperature sensor to the Pasport Xplorer device.
3. Connect the PasPort Xplorer device to the computer with the USB cable.
4. Open the DataStudio software and select “Launch DataStudio.” (or "Create an Experiment")
5. Click on the “Setup” button located near the top of the screen.
6. Click on the “Calibrate” button in the setup window.
7. Place the temperature sensor probe into the ice water bath.
8. Enter the 0.0 C for “Point 1” and click the “Set” button when the temperature reading stabilizes. (Note: The temperature reading value need not be the set value.)
9. Removed the temperature sensor probe from the ice water bath.
10. Repeat steps 7 – 8 with the boiling water, entering this 100.0 C for “Point 2.”
11. Press the "Ok" button and the sensor should be calibrated.
