Water Temperature

Materials:
CBL system
TI-83 Plus graphing calculator
CHEMBIO program
TI Temperature Probe
Calculator-to-CBL link cable
Texas Instruments AC 9201 adapter (or use batteries)

TI Temperature Probe Procedure:
1. Connect the CBL System to the TI-83 Plus graphing calculator using the link cable.
2. Plug the Texas Instruments AC 9201 adapter into the CBL system.
3. Plug the TI Temperature Probe into Channel 1 of the CBL system.
4. Turn on the CBL system and the TI-83 graphing calculator.
5. Press APPS on the calculator and in the CHEMBIO program
6. Press ENTER to proceed to the main menu.
7. Select SET UP PROBES from the MAIN MENU.
8. Enter "1" as the number of probes.
9. Select TEMERATURE from the SELECT PROBE menu.
10. Enter "1" as the channel number.
11. Select COLLECT DATA (2) from the main menu.
12. Select SINGLE POINT (5) from the DATA COLLECTION menu.
13. Press ENTER to proceed to the main menu.
14. Place the tip of the TI Temperature Probe in the water far from the shore and below the water’s surface.
15. Press ENTER to begin sampling.
16. Wait 25 seconds for the temperature (in degrees Celsius) to appear on the screen.
17. Record the results and round to the nearest 0.1 degrees Celsius.
18. Press ENTER , then select YES to repeat measurement.
19. Press ENTER to obtain a second reading.
20. Wait 25 seconds for the temperature (in degrees Celsius) to appear on the screen.
21. Record the results and round to the nearest 0.1 degrees Celsius.
22. Press ENTER, then select NO to return to the MAIN MENU.
23. Repeat steps 1-22 to obtain temperature measurements 1 mile upstream.
