Scenario #1

Pretend you are on a city council that must decide if a community baseball stadium should be built on a meadow that serves as a bird and wildlife sanctuary.  Think about this dilemma from all sides of the issue.  How do you think each of the following individuals might react to this proposal? 

wild life biologist baseball player building contractor
local bird watcher sports fan local tax collector

  1. List all individuals, interest groups, or organizations that were in favor of building the baseball stadium.
  2. List all individuals, interest groups, or organizations that were opposed to the building of the baseball stadium.
  3. What environmental concerns were identified regarding this issue.
  4. What economic concerns were identified regarding this issue?
  5. What are the short-term costs and benefits of the proposal to build a baseball stadium?
  6. What are the long-term costs and benefits of the proposal to build a baseball stadium?
  7. List the three strongest arguments in favor of building the baseball stadium.
  8. List the three strongest arguments against building the baseball stadium.
  9. How would you personally vote on this issue?  Justify your answer.
