During the first two segments of this activity, you
gained an understanding of what sprawl is, how it has affected the Lehigh
River watershed, and the effects that sprawl has on human and environmental
health. With that knowledge you will be able to form your own opinions
about best land use practices. Because of the known impacts of sprawl
to the health of all species, citizens and lawmakers are beginning to
think about ways to change land use practices. In the next few pages,
you will explore some of the options that land owners have today as
a result of changing practices and you will learn about land use programs
that strongly consider the effect of development on human and environmental
health.
Now, let's explore ways that we can change the way
land is used to avoid the negative consequences of sprawl.
