The Scripps Institution of Oceanography is one of the oldest, largest
and most important centers of marine science research in the world.
It is part of the University of California and is located just north
of La Jolla. At Scripps, scientists and students research all aspects
of the ocean including chemical, physical, biological, geological and
geophysical components. They conduct projects in many areas including
air and sea interaction, climate prediction, earthquakes, physiology
and ecology of marine animals, beach erosion and geological history
of the ocean basins. Their four ships and Floating Instrument Platform
(FLIP) travel the oceans all over the world to conduct research.
