Seven Mile Beach is located between Townsend Inlet and Hereford inlet. The northern half of the island is occupied by the community of Avalon. The beach here is unprotected by groins. This allows wave energy to be expended over 5 miles of beach. Dunes as high as 12 feet are situated on wide beaches.
