Liberty Island

Sandwiched between New York and New Jersey, Liberty Island is a small spot of land in the New York Harbor. This is the home of the Statue of Liberty. Nearly the entire island has been altered by man. The edges of the island have been either enclosed by bulkheads, or filled in with rocks and sand. Invasive trees and weeds have established themselves on the island. Jersey City can be seen on the Jersey side of the island, and Manhattan on the other. The park area immediately around the Statue has been paved in concrete and brick.
