Sandy Hook Bay, Horseshoe Cove

The bay side features three shallow coves. Two of these are Horseshoe Cove and Spermaceti Cove. Both areas are popular spots for recreational activities such as fishing, wind surfing and diving. The barrier island is called the Hook and protects the bay from rough ocean currents and provides a safe nesting and feeding ground for migratory birds. The dunes have been stabilized by grasses and low shrubs.
